Anyone who has been to a House of Prayer programmed retreat has experienced Ward Bauman’s wonderful cooking. He offers simple, mostly vegetarian fare that is healthful and nourishing.

Before he became director of the Episcopal House of Prayer in 2002, Ward worked with the Christian Brothers in Napa, California, where he cooked and worked with retreatants. In addition to a lifelong love of cooking, Ward learned many of his skills during 4 1/2 years spent living in Iran.

The recipes here are scaled for the family kitchen. In this book you’ll find salads, casseroles, soups and desserts, simple meals for every day. Particularly good for those with access to good, local vegetables interested in seasonal cooking.
