In this EHoP Mystics Series video, Christine Luna Munger lectures on the life and wisdom teachings of Thomas Merton.

How did the mystics who came in the generations before us carve out a path for us? How have figures like Thomas Merton—scholar, poet, mystic, contemplative activist—shaped the ground we are all walking on?

This lecture gives a look at Merton’s life experience as told in his autobiography, The Seven Storey Mountain, but also offers a window into his inner, contemplative life, as told through his journal entries.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission is to assist in the ongoing work of discerning God's presence, both within ourselves and in the world; provide guidance in the search for wisdom; teach all forms of contemplative prayer; offer training in the inner work of the spiritual life.

The Vision of the Episcopal House of Prayer is to be a contemplative ministry of spiritual transformation, grounded in the Christian tradition, in the practice of Benedictine hospitality, reaching out and welcoming all.
