Seeing With New Eyes

Transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary

Awakening to Wholeness is a series of prompts, reflections, and teachings about how holding the tension of opposites can help us to heal division and experience wholeness. If you feel moved to share your own reflections, we invite you to email us with the subject line “Wisdom of Opposites” or tag us on social media with #EHoPWisdomOfOpposites.

This is a guest post by EHoP community member Dianne Schlichting, in response to “Monotony and Dynamism.”

We welcome contributions from all members of our community! To learn more, see the bottom of this page.

Just this morning I came across two lovely stories of how to bring dynamism into the monotony of daily routine. The first was the story of a young girl who inspired a teacher by always peeking around corners in the school building before actually going around the corners; she was playing a game with herself, anticipating the encounter she would have with—another person, a monster, an animal, a unicorn…it didn’t really matter: the anticipation caused her joy, and it broke into the monotony of stumbling from one hallway into another.

The second story invited the reader to imagine that the Resurrection was so filled with Light that it blinded Jesus! So, for the day, the reader was invited to take Jesus by the hand and let Him see through the reader’s eyes the wonders of the world: a flower; a bird; a blade of grass; a smile offered by a stranger!

Wonder of wonders, the monotony of doing the same thing in the same place didn’t change much in either of these two stories; however, seeing with new eyes did transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and sprinkle in some dynamic experiences.
