The Prayer Thread is a collection of teachings and practical prompts to help as we learn to pray in community. This text was originally delivered on October 24, 2025 as a short teaching at our online weekly prayer sit.

In the northern hemisphere, when Fall settles in, at some point, the winds shift and a cold force pierces the air. I know many people who enjoy a cup of hot coffee or tea as they engage their rhythm of morning prayer. Sometimes, especially when the cold pierces, it is good to remember that prayer is warmth.

When a young person discovers the fervor of the life of faith, the new energy of conversion is the heat of prayer as warmth.

When people in committed relationships catch some glimpse of growth due to loving the other, the spark of transformation is prayer as warmth.

When a people gather to hear the Holy Word and a preacher ignites meaning that translates into action, the fire of justice is prayer as warmth.

When loved ones gather around the bedside of someone preparing to cross the veil, and the stories of memory awaken an assurance that it is okay to follow the Light, the radiance of faith is prayer as warmth.

When your heart tingles in the deep Presence of the Holy Ones, the embers of Love reflect the many manifestations of the One, at work, through the warmth of prayer.

May we be warmed in mind, heart, and sense through our ongoing participation in the Life of prayer!
