The Prayer Thread is a collection of teachings and practical prompts to help as we learn to pray in community. This text was originally delivered on April 10, 2026 as a short teaching at our online weekly prayer sit.

Prayer is crying out.
Prayer is conversation.
Prayer is dialogue.
Prayer is encounter.
Prayer is communion.

Prayer is words.
Prayer is song.
Prayer is silence.
Prayer is stillness.
Prayer is movement.

Prayer is praise – wow!
Prayer is gratitude – thanks.
Prayer is petition – please.
Prayer is confession – sorry.
Prayer is union – Here, I am.

Prayer is joy.
Prayer is sorrow.
Prayer is abundance.
Prayer is grief.
Prayer is rest.

Prayer is curiosity.
Prayer is doubt.
Prayer is assurance.
Prayer is emptiness.
Prayer is faith.

Prayer is wanting.
Prayer is needing.
Prayer is longing.
Prayer is angst.
Prayer is desire.

In prayer, God is Creator.
In prayer, God is Redeemer.
In prayer, God is Lover.
In prayer, God is Presence.
In prayer, God is Holy One.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission is to assist in the ongoing work of discerning God's presence, both within ourselves and in the world; provide guidance in the search for wisdom; teach all forms of contemplative prayer; offer training in the inner work of the spiritual life.

The Vision of the Episcopal House of Prayer is to be a contemplative ministry of spiritual transformation, grounded in the Christian tradition, in the practice of Benedictine hospitality, reaching out and welcoming all.
