Sacred chant is integral to almost every spiritual path and is integral to the communal contemplative practices at the Episcopal House of Prayer. In this one-day workshop, participants will explore the sacred foundations and practices of chant, experiencing how chant can enliven and enrich both private and shared contemplative practices.

Bill Brand began the contemplative journey 30 years ago and about the same time also began singing sacred music from across many centuries. For most of those years, he has served as a cantor in area churches where he invites and leads congregations in chanting the psalms. He is among the chant leaders for the weekly prayer sits at the Episcopal House of Prayer.

Gary Barrett has engaged elemental sacred music since the early 1980’s. He was founder of the Bella Voce consort, a group specializing in early sacred music. He has sung with the Abbey Schola at St. John’s Abbey and the Collegeville Consort based out of St. John’s University. Additionally, he has led the day-long Anglican celebration, Chanting the Psalms, on several occasions. He is also a chant leader for the weekly contemplative sittings at the Episcopal House of Prayer.
