Retreat

Register Now.

We are so fortunate to have an internationally renowned wilderness area like the Boundary Waters on our doorstep. Many have found themselves transformed by a few days in this place of peace, beauty, and wildness. On this retreat, we’ll be silent, respond to questions, paddle to see what nature has to show us. This Boundary Waters Retreat will be guided by Mary Ellen Ashcroft, a retired Episcopal priest, author, and wilderness guide. The fee includes the cost of the retreat, meals, canoes, and staying at the Ashcroft home on arrival and departure day. Personal snacks and additional equipment may be your responsibility.

The Boundary Waters trip begins and ends in Grand Marais, MN. If you do not have your own transportation, you can check among the participants about carpooling options. Similarly, if you need to borrow a tent, pack, or other camping gear, you can check with the group about these items. Mary Ellen will be in contact well in advance of the trip to begin coordinating these details.

You will need to be fit for this trip—able to hike with a forty-pound pack across a portage. Your ability to carry the weight of your equipment and a canoe directly impacts the other participants on the retreat. Please be judicious as you discern participation. You do not need to be in peak physical condition, but please be prepared for a physical adventure alongside the spiritual.

August 16: Arrive in Grand Marais by 2:00PM for gear check and supper.
August 17: Enter the BWCAW.
August 18-19: In the BWCAW.
August 20: Come out of the BWCAW and spend a night in Grand Marais. We'll have supper and debrief.
August 21: Start your journey home at 11:00AM.

Suggested offering: $700 (includes the cost of the retreat, entry into the Boundary waters, food, and staying at the Ashcroft home on arrival and departure day)
