In this session, we will engage with the contemplative stream within Christianity. Often, seekers assume that they must look outside the Christian tradition in order to find prayer practices that are based on the use of silence and sacred words. Revitalized by the late Trappist monk, Thomas Keating, the modern method of Centering Prayer draws upon ancient Christian Wisdom regarding silent, imageless prayer. A typical session of Centering Prayer includes the use of a sacred word and about 20 minutes of silent sitting. This half-day, online session will include an introduction to Centering Prayer, practical tips about how to practice, an experience of the method, and small group reflection about our experiences of the prayer.
