Humility and False Humility

In the Rule of Benedict, written over 1,500 years ago, treatment of the topic of humility is the longest single theme in the whole text. Benedict presents 12 rungs on a ladder of humility and suggests that those who wish to become most fully human, made in the image and likeness of a loving God, can expect to undergo a long and dynamic journey with many ups and many downs.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission is to assist in the ongoing work of discerning God's presence, both within ourselves and in the world; provide guidance in the search for wisdom; teach all forms of contemplative prayer; offer training in the inner work of the spiritual life.

The Vision of the Episcopal House of Prayer is to be a contemplative ministry of spiritual transformation, grounded in the Christian tradition, in the practice of Benedictine hospitality, reaching out and welcoming all.
